Jonathan Wickware

 

Wickware also spelled Wickwire, Wickwise
Alpheus
was a river god in Greek mythology.
Lebbeus (Laboris, Lebeus, Lebius, Lebeous, Libeous, Libious) is from the Bible. It means a man of heart.

 
 

Jonathan Wickware was born about 1753.

His wife was named Margaret.

In October 1777, the Committee for Detecting and Defeating Conspiracies ordered the arrest of Jonathon Wickwire and John Smith on charges of multiple robberies in Livington's Manor, Albany County.

On January 1, 1783, Jonathan appeared on Major Edward Jessup's Loyal Rangers muster taken at Riviere du Chene. He was 30 years old, and a private in Captain Justus Sherwood's company.

He was an early settler in Leeds County, Ontario and in 1785, the family was living in in Augusta Township.

 
 

 

 
  Allowed John E. WOOD constable [sic] one pound and eight pence to be paid out of the Treasury for apprehending Benjamin YATES & John WICKWIRE.
